Great for legacy code, but pricing is murky.

Legacy Code Modernization with Devin saved us weeks of work, though their pricing for enterprise is still unclear without an invite. 🚀

Devin's Python support is great

The 27% off beta invite made Devin Enterprise's Python capabilities really accessible.

Not quite there yet

I bought this to help with some coding tasks. It's supposed to be an AI assistant. Honestly, it didn't really save me much time. The suggestions were okay sometimes, but often I had to rewrite a lot. I was expecting more direct help, like finishing complex functions, but it struggled with that. It felt more like a basic autocomplete tool sometimes. So, not what I hoped for.

Where's the invite code for Devin?!

Okay, so I've been hearing SO much about Devin, especially its Repository Indexing and Deployment Automation features, and I'm dying to try it out! It sounds like such a powerful tool for coding. My only little gripe is how hard it is to get access; I wish there was a clearer path to getting an invite outside of enterprise partnerships! Definitely keeping an eye out for when it's more widely available, I'll be jumping on that code immediately! If it's anything like what I've seen, it'll blow GitHub Copilot out of the water. I'll recommend it to all my developer friends once I can actually use it!

Mostly great, but slow waitlist!

Automated Bug Fixing has been a lifesaver, but the waitlist for Devin was about two months too long! Still recommending it to everyone! 🚀

Is Devin worth it for smaller teams or should we stick to Copilot?

G GeetaRao 3 weeks ago ✓ Best Answer
We moved from Copilot to Devin for Teams. The Autonomous Coding Agent and Automated Testing Suite actually saved us a ton of dev time. It's not just about suggestions.

G GeetaRao 3 weeks ago
Yeah, it can handle whole tasks. Big difference.

R RaviVerma 3 weeks ago
Good to know. We struggle with testing.
3
A AishaKhan 3 weeks ago
Oh, so it does more than just write code snippets?
7
M MohitReddy 3 weeks ago
For smaller teams, Devin for Teams might be overkill if you're just looking for code suggestions. Copilot is cheaper and good for that.
6
A AishaKhan 3 weeks ago
That's what I was thinking. The pricing for Devin seems higher.

S SanjayDas 3 weeks ago
Depends on your needs. If you want something to truly take on tasks, not just assist, then Devin is better. But it's a bigger investment.

Makes sense.

Thinking about getting Devin for some legacy code modernization. Has anyone used their 'Legacy Code Modernization' tool specifically? How well does it handle older tech stacks?

P PriyaS 1 month ago
I used it for a project last quarter, migrating an old PHP app to a more modern framework. It wasn't perfect out of the box, definitely needed some manual tweaking, but it saved a ton of initial boilerplate work. The 'Feature Implementation Agent' also helped speed things up after the migration.

Which PHP version was it? Mine is super old.

R RahulK 1 month ago
Good to know about the feature agent. Was thinking about that too.

Not directly for modernization, but I'm using Devin's 'Automated Bug Fixing' on a legacy C# project and it's surprisingly decent. I imagine the modernization aspect would be similar – good starting point, but not fully autonomous yet.

R RahulK 1 month ago
That's encouraging. My stack is C++ so similar complexity.

S Sneha22 1 month ago
Following. My team is considering it for some COBOL stuff, but I'm skeptical if it can handle that.

COBOL? That's a tough one. Good luck!

Is Devin really better than GitHub Copilot for everyday coding?

B ByteBuddy 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
Totally different tools. Copilot helps with code completion, Devin tries to DO the task.

D DevPriyanka 1 month ago
That's what I thought. Apples and oranges almost.

Yeah, like Copilot is a super fancy autocomplete, Devin is more like a junior dev.

For small stuff, Copilot is faster. For bigger features, Devin might save time.

Thinking about Devin for teams. Is the pricing worth it?

M MeenaKaur 1 month ago ✓ Best Answer
It's pricey, not gonna lie. But for codebase migration, it saved us weeks. So yeah, for specific tasks, it's worth it.

We got a free trial through a contact. It's powerful, but definitely need to integrate it into your workflow carefully.

A ArjunDesai 1 month ago
We're using it for automated bug fixing and it's… okay. Not a magic bullet, but it helps our junior devs a lot.
3

Yeah, was hoping for more. Still better than nothing.
